Joni Hoffman“I promise there will only be a few people.” It always starts out the same. A holiday was approaching, and I felt the itch to entertain. I didn’t know how to keep it small and simple. I wish I knew now what I learned from residents in this month’s issue about enjoying your backyard. They keep entertaining simple so they can enjoy having friends over. Good plan. One summer I had the brilliant idea to host a Fourth of July party after we were in the Bellaire parade. I had promised husband Michael it was going to be small. But every time I ran into someone at the parade I could not help myself and said, “What are you doing later?” That night we had over 100 people, including kids, dogs and parents. Michael did not have a clue. When he pulled up to the house he found a huge bouncy water slide across two yards. In the backyard I had set up two rented margarita machines. Minutes before the party, when I plugged them in, they blew a circuit, and the power went out. Enjoy your yards this month. And keep it simple. [email protected]
