The Rummel Creek Elementary gym was filled with cheers, unique student songs, special bracelets, thank you notes and other signs of respect as 700 students joined staff, parents and community members to show their support for local law enforcement. The school’s “red, white and back the blue” spirit rally was inspired by the shooting death of Harris County sheriff’s Deputy Darren Goforth, after the school’s music teacher, Karen Donathen, watched his televised funeral. The rally combined elements of the traditional “red ribbon week” drug and alcohol prevention campaign with support for local law enforcement. Attending were officers from Houston, Spring Branch ISD and Constable Precinct 5; the Stratford High School cheerleaders; band and drum line; local Cub Scout Webelos; and the executive director of The 100 Club. The school’s PTA made a $500 donation to The 100 Club. Pictured are Constable Precinct 5 Officer Carrie Goetz and third graders Maddie Stanton, Kamila Rueda and Evy Christie (from left).
