Cardinals flew in

About 135 members of the Bellaire High School Class of ’76 found themselves together again for their 40th class reunion at the Marriott West Loop. They have come a long way from their days as Belles and Birdkeepers. In the crowd were Tina Cohen Blum of Blum’s Fine Furniture, lawyers Lisa Liles, Margaret Cranford Terry and Lisa Colgin Rey, Dr. Matthew Lenz, artist David Cagney and more. David Applebaum, an architect to the stars in Hollywood, recalled their efforts to have ZZ Top play at the senior prom in 1976. “[The album] Tres Hombres had just come out,” said David. “We just couldn’t get through to them.” David has lived and worked in Los Angeles for more than 20 years and had the opportunity to meet ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons. Although the alumni are near and far from Houston, David said one thing remains the same. “People in Houston don’t care if you’re a star or how much money you have. They care what kind of person you are. I have to say, I miss that. Life is all about the journey and the relationships.”
