The Krewe of Olympians, in existence since the 1890s, began their night of revelry at the New Orleans Country Club with a tableau-about-New Orleans dance. The Mardi Gras Indians, led by Joe Braden, wore full headdresses and carried spears and hatchets while the burlesque dancers wore multicolored wigs, pink bustiers, miniskirts and fishnet stockings.
