Making a difference

More than 300 community leaders gathered at Hotel ZaZa for the 10th annual Making a Difference Luncheon benefiting El Centro de Corazón. Leisa Holland Nelson and Leila Perrin were chairs for the second year in a row, and Philamena and Arthur Baird were the honorary chairs. Gina Gaston of KTRH Channel 13 emceed the event. Karen Love, a longtime active community member, of PKF Texas, was recognized as the 2017 Making a Difference Community Leader Honoree. Keynote speaker Maria Hinojosa, a news anchor and reporter, shared her story and spoke about the importance of organizations like El Centro. Spotted in the crowd were John Hernandez, Cathy Easter, Dr. Charles Millikan, Bill King, Beckie and Gasper Mir, Cyndy Garza Roberts, Sippi Khurana, Shawntell McWilliams, Roxann Neumann, and Margaret and Joel Shannon.
