Thomas Fanning, Leanne Reynolds

Thomas Fanning and Leanne Reynolds

At River Oaks Baptist School, administrators cleared their calendars, silenced their phones and laced up their tennis shoes. Then they immersed themselves in student life for a day by “shadowing” a student from morning carpool through afternoon pick-up. Second grader Thomas Fanning spent Go Texan Day hosting head of school Leanne Reynolds (pictured). "I felt special and important all day,” Thomas said. He loved playing “hotfoot bingo” during P.E. and enjoyed reading his dream vacation project about Charlottesville to Mrs. Reynolds, especially as she lived in Virginia after college. Mrs. Reynolds also sat with Thomas at lunch and visited with his friends. “That night, Mrs. Reynolds sent Tiff’s Treats to our house, and my mom let me have two cookies,” Thomas said. “It was an amazing day!"

Editor’s note: The Buzz congratulates Buzz About Town columnist Annie Blaylock McQueen on the arrival of her beautiful baby Georgia. Annie took a short break to spend time with Georgia and twin toddlers Cash and Lila and will return to the Buzz About Town column in May. In the meantime, associate editor Jordan Magaziner Steinfeld handled this column.
