Houston Chapter of Hadassah's Women Who Do Luncheon

The Houston Chapter of Hadassah will honor Barbara Bronstein at its 2023 "Women Who Do" Luncheon. It's extra special that Bronstein, founder of nonprofit Second Servings, will be honored at this luncheon because her very first "food rescue" took place at Hadassah's 2013 Women of Courage luncheon.

When Bronstein witnessed first-hand how multiple tables had “no-show” seats with hosts of lunches going to waste, she founded Second Servings of Houston, which rescues high-quality unsold and unserved food and deliver it to local nonprofits for free. The Hadassah luncheon, to be held at Congregation Beth Israel, will feature a Food Rescue Challenge, with three chefs representing different segments of the food industry that donate surplus food to Second Servings: Executive Chef Ruffy Sulaiman, Hilton Americas-Houston; Executive Chef Sean Moore, Hess Corporation; and Executive Chef Andres Albarran, Houston Catering Concepts. Their challenge: to create an outstanding four-course menu from ingredients they select at a Second Servings food rescue at Trader Joe’s and then replicated for the Hadassah luncheon.

To date, thanks to chefs like these and more than 400 other food donors, Second Servings has rescued more than $58 million worth of perfectly edible food, helping nourish more than 175,000 needy Houstonians annually and diverting 8.5 million pounds away from the landfill.

All proceeds from the January 17 luncheon will benefit the Houston Chapter of Hadassah To become a table captain, purchase event tickets or sponsorships, or request further event information, please e-mail [email protected].
