This Montrose favorite is quite popular on the weekends. Lines form outside the door with eager folks waiting to place their orders for pancakes, waffles or omelets. But the stars at Empire are the specialty egg dishes, including the Verdi – eggs on spinach with garlic and olive oil, served with cheddar hash brown potatoes and fresh fruit. Breakfast favorites, such as eggs Benedict and breakfast tacos, round out the otherwise eclectic menu. Signature muffins and scones with a cup of bottomless coffee or an espresso are options for a quick breakfast to go. The portions are healthy, and each item is made to order and served hot. The sleek indoor seating is cozy and nicely lined with art from local artists, but it can get a little crowded at peak times. However, the large, shaded patio is a nice escape from the masses, and offers views of the bustling antique shops that line Westheimer.
