Tanglewood resident Megan Cardet founded A Place for Peanut, a horse sanctuary and equine therapy foundation, when she spotted a 29-inch miniature foal in a Texas kill pen. The organization is now dedicated to rescuing horses, donkeys and miniature horses from being slaughtered, while bringing joy to children and veterans in hospitals through its special programs and therapy. When Cardet stumbled across the foal, Peanut, she says she knew she had to rescue him. Newly orphaned, Peanut inspired the foundation that has now saved more than 150 horses and donkeys since it was established in January 2016. A Place for Peanut hosted its second annual gala in August at Kirby Ice House, where honorary chair Michelle Maresh along with gala co-chairs Christine and Steve Johnson welcomed supporters.
