One restaurant door closes and another opens. Betsy’s at Evelyn’s Park will start serving breakfast tacos, wood-fired pizzas, sandwiches and salads this fall. It’s a quick turn-around for the newcomer, considering the nature center has only been without an eatery since July when former resident The Ivy & James suddenly shuttered. This summer, the park has hosted pop-up concepts at the Yellow House.

In the fall, Betsy’s by Adair Concepts will take over the distinctive sunny Yellow House at 4400 Bellaire Boulevard. The Adair name is familiar around these parts. Gary Adair lives nearby. He started the family business with Skeeter’s Mesquite Grill in 1988. Now Adair Concepts – with daughter Katie and son Nick taking a more active role – operates 10 restaurants under five concepts, including Los Tios Mexican Restaurant, Adair Kitchen and Eloise Nichols. Eloise is in honor of his mother. This time around, the restaurant is named after wife Betsy.

"We hope neighbors will join us for breakfast, lunch, or dinner -- even for a great glass of wine," said daughter and Adair Concepts co-owner Katie Adair Barnhart. "No matter the reason, we view the space as an ideal watering hole for neighbors and friends."

Once it gets rolling, Betsy’s at Evelyn’s Park plans to add outdoor grill nights, movies on the lawn and other pop-up events.

Park director Patricia King-Ritter noted that the Adairs have been serving the Bellaire community and surrounding areas for more than three decades. "The Adair children grew up in Bellaire," she said, adding that the park has been committed to finding a restaurant operator that understand the needs of the neighborhood and guest parks. “We no doubt found the perfect shepherd of the Yellow House in Adair Concepts."
