October is such a fun month, what with fall weather starting to make itself known in Houston, Halloween, and excitement for Thanksgiving, which looms ahead. September was an amazing month for live music in Houston, but we’re being spoiled again this month. Grab a group of friends or plan date night around one of the awesome shows happening this month. Support live music!

Oct. 2: Drake and Migos @ Toyota Center

If you didn’t get to go to Drake’s September show, he’s having another one a few days later in October. Drake is a self-proclaimed Houston fan, so he will likely do something special for his last show in H-Town.

Oct. 2: Goo Goo Dolls @ House of Blues

I’m sorry for this, but you’re now going to have “Iris” stuck in your head the rest of the day.

Oct. 3: Hoodie Allen @ House of Blues

Hoodie Allen is doing a special tour this fall in smaller venues, selling a maximum of 400 tickets per venue so that fans can experience him in an intimate setting. I wish all my favorite bands would do this!

Oct. 4: J Balvin @ Smart Financial Centre

J Balvin is a reggaeton singer who performed at the Rodeo this past year. His song “I Like It” with Cardi B is really popular right now.

Oct. 8: Verite @ House of Blues

I discovered Verite through her great cover of The 1975’s Somebody Else. She has a great “indie pop” or “alternative pop” sound that appeals to a wide range of listeners.

Oct. 11: Noah Cyrus @ House of Blues

You may have heard about the recent Noah Cyrus and Lil Xan drama, but if you’d like to put a face to the name, Noah (Miley’s sister) is coming this October, promoting her new song “Live or Die,” ironically featuring Lil Xan.

Oct. 12: Arctic Monkeys @ Revention Music Center

I love the Arctic Monkeys - you know classics like Do I Wanna Know? And R U Mine? But they released a new album in May 2018 that will likely be the bulk of their tour this fall.

Oct. 13: RBRM with Joe, Ginuwine, and 702 @ Smart Financial Centre

If you like R&B music, this is a good show to see, featuring 4 major groups of talented R&B singers.

Oct. 13-14: Bayou City Art Festival @ City Hall

This festival, sponsored by the Art Colony Association, raises money each year for Houston nonprofits. Enjoy art, food trucks, live music, and school art competitions. Check out the link to see how you can volunteer, too.

Oct. 13: Lily Allen @ House of Blues

Lily Allen is a pop/ska singer from England. Her most recent album came out in June 2018, but she’s been around since 2006.

Oct. 14: Bob Dylan @ Smart Financial Centre

If you’re going, I’ll see you there! What do I have to say to promote Bob Dylan? He’s a blues and rock pioneer and Nobel prize winner.

Oct. 14: Alice Cooper @ White Oak Music Hall Lawn

School isn’t out for summer, but Alice Cooper will likely still sing the classic song.

Oct. 19: Dustin Lynch, Lauren Alaina, and Cole Swindell @ Smart Financial Centre

There aren’t many big country concerts happening in the city this October, but this one should be pretty major, featuring three top country stars.

Oct. 19-20: Kevin Hart @ Toyota Center

Kevin Hart is a comedian, not a musician, but I think he’s hilarious. If you haven’t read his book, you definitely should.

Oct. 20: Majic 102.1 Under the Stars @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell

A musical night sponsored by 102.1 featuring Patti LaBelle, SOS Band, Midnight Star, and Regina Bell.

Oct. 23: Idina Menzel and Josh Groban @ Toyota Center

Idina Menzel is the voice behind Elsa from Frozen, and Elphaba from Wicked. She’s a total superstar, as is Josh Groban, who is a multi-platinum musician, producer, and now actor!

Oct. 24: Alan Parsons Live Project @ Stafford Centre

The Alan Parsons Project is a band started by Alan Parsons (shocker), who was involved with the production of several Beatles albums, The Dark Side of the Moon album by Pink Floyd, and more. Although perhaps not well-recognized by name, Alan Parsons is a super cool guy who rock music lovers should enjoy seeing.

Oct. 27: Buzzfest @ Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion

Join 94.5 The Buzz radio station for Buzzfest, featuring The Struts, Chevelle, A Perfect Circle, and many more.

Oct. 28: Jessie J @ The Ballroom at Warehouse Live

Jessie J has a powerful voice, and covers a few genres: pop, soul, and R&B.

Check out my article on fun Halloween events all month long, including live music!
