Guests arrived in couture fashions and spectacular masks for The 2019 Alley Theatre Ball – La Grande Mascarade: Au Palais Royal at The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston. The evening, honoring The Cullen Trust for the Performing Arts, raised $1.1 million. The ballroom was transformed into 18th-century Paris, with models in vintage French gowns, waistcoats, breeches and intricate masks designed by artist Holland Vavra, plus Parisian garden scenes displayed on the walls with intricate mirrors. Chairs were Heide and Doug Shanda (pictured). Nina Zilkha accepted the gift of a signed script of Describe the Night by Obie award-winner Rajiv Joseph. The Dance House Fitness Dolls entertained guests with a modern minuet performance. The second performance surprised the crowd when the dancers broke out from a traditional minuet to a modern hip-hop number.
