Crime Stoppers of Houston honored community members who have contributed to make the city safer. The annual Houston’s Heroes Awards Luncheon, which was held at the Royal Sonesta Hotel and attended by more than 400 guests, raised over $200,000. Dana Tyson, host of the Sunny 99.1 Morning Show, emceed. Awardees included Lt. Ralph Ohland, Special Agent Louie Verdeja and Sgt. Jeff Thomas from the Harris County Violent Crime Unit and the DPS Texas Anti-Gang Center Violent Crime Unit, Phillips 66, Glenda and Russell Gordy, Michael D. Wilson, Harris County Commissioner R. Jack Cagle, Houston police Chief Art Acevedo and Assistant Chief Bobby Dobbins, The Houston 20, Jennifer Hohman, Amy Pierce and the winner of the inaugural Dave Ward Excellence Award, Ted Oberg.
