Double bassist Jonathan Keith (pictured, at left), a Memorial High School alum and Baylor University rising senior, has been accepted into the prestigious 30th Annual Immanuel and Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival. More than 390 applicants applied for the 93 positions to study in the rigorous one-month classical music residency at the University of Houston Moores School of Music. Jonathan, who was nicknamed “The Bass-thoven” at age 12, made his first appearance in Carnegie Hall with the MHS Orchestra in 10th grade. Musical talent runs in his family; his late maternal grandfather, Blondie Calderon, was the pianist, vibraphonist and bandleader for country singer Ray Price, and his father, Richard Keith, is the organist, pianist and choir director at St. Francis Episcopal Church. Jonathan will join conductors and guest soloists plus classical music’s rising stars, including double bass colleague Ian Donovan (pictured, at right). Ian is a fellow Baylor University student from West U. See tmf.uh.edu.
