Uru Academy and Emery/Weiner School

This summer, a group of students and teachers, most from The Emery Weiner School, traveled to Moshi, Tanzania, at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. It’s the second trip that Emery teacher Amber Gaudet has coordinated to bring students to Uru Academy – a school built and founded by EWS alumna Mandy Stein. The school provides food and education to many orphans sponsored through Mandy’s nonprofit, Neema International. Travelers volunteer at the school by reading to the kids, teaching art or math, playing at recess and even building a new playground. Several students chose to sponsor kids. While in Tanzania, the group also spent time exploring the area, including experiencing a safari.
