Salsa y Salud

Salsa y Salud, Texas’ largest live Salsa and Dance show happens at Miller Outdoor Theater on Sept. 28. 

National Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15-Oct. 15 each year, and it serves as a special time to celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

With almost 40 percent of Houston’s population identifying as Hispanic/Latino, this is the perfect city to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Here, we’ve rounded up some cultural events happening in honor of this special month. Be sure to check some of them out!  

Houston Dynamo Celebrations  
Friday, Sept. 6, 2019-Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019

Each year, the Houston Dynamo celebrate the contributions Hispanic and Latino Americans have made in the United States during National Hispanic Heritage Month. They celebrate the diversity of our team, our fans and our city. Mexico was featured during week one of the month. Check out the schedule below for the different countries featured in the upcoming weeks:

Sept. 20-26: Honduras (Boniek García, Luis Garrido, Alexander López)
Sept. 27-Oct 3: Colombia (Mauro Manotas)
Oct. 4-10: Argentina (Leonel Miranda)

Siudy Flamenco Intimo  
Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, 8 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019, 7 p.m.

Siudy Flamenco Intimo is an original dance and flamenco music production artistically directed by dancer and choreographer Siudy Garrido, featuring original music from Spanish guitarist José Luis de la Paz and the voice of special guest artist flamenco “cantaor” Manuel Gago. Attend one of these shows to watch this traditional Spanish dance! 

Minute Maid Park Hispanic Heritage Weekend

Minute Maid Park celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with weekend-long festivities. The weekend kicks off on Friday evening with a Tejano Themed Firework show and continues on Saturday, when all fans receive a Carlos Correa “Puerto Rico Flag” Bobblehead. There will also be a Hispanic Heritage Street Festival  on Saturday and Sunday, featuring live music, foot trucks and more, open only to ticket holders.

Nouveau Flamenco Spanish Guitar Performance

Fort Bend County Libraries’ George Memorial Library will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a special live performance of Flamenco jazz music. Library patrons will be treated to Flamenco guitar music performed by John Acevedo. 

Salsa y Salud

Featuring international, regional, and local artists in an all original production guaranteed to make you want to dance, Salsa y Salud combines high-energy salsa hits and classics with soulful dancing. Original choreography and a cast of over 50 makes this a memorable evening for the entire family.

Dia de la Hispanidad

Dia de la Hispanidad, happening at Miller Outdoor Theater on Fri., Oct. 18, pays tribute to the cultural beauty of Venezuela.

The Day of the Hispanic World – Dia de la Hispanidad celebrates its 35th annual dance and music program at Miller Outdoor Theatre by presenting a tribute to the cultural beauty and treasures of Venezuela. Talented musicians, vocalists, and Danmar Academy of Performing Art’ dancers will delight audiences with 13 folkloric scenes of this colorful country.

Viva Latin America

The Houston Latin American Philharmonic presents its annual “Viva Latin America” to close Houston’s Hispanic Heritage Month activities with the highest honors. The concert program features international star Olga Tañon as special guest artist.

East End Street Fest

The East End Street Fest celebrates one of Houston’s most historic Hispanic neighborhoods. The event features a day-to-evening street party with food, live music and kid-friendly activities.
