30th Annual MLK Day Celebration at Children's Museum Houston

Children's Museum Houston hosts its Annual MLK Day Celebration on Jan. 17, 2026, including music, art, storytelling, and hands-on activities, plus a Peach March, performances, and more.
In celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Children’s Museum Houston will host its Annual MLK Day Celebration on Jan. 17, 2026. These milestone celebrations bring his message to life through music, art, storytelling, and hands-on activities which encourage you to dream boldly and lead with kindness. The day includes:
Peace march, performances and “Dream Big” moments
Saturday, Jan. 17, beginning at noon
For 30 years and counting, the Museum has proudly honored the life and legacy of Dr. King by inviting families to come together in the spirit of unity, justice, and hope. This powerful, kid-centered experience is a celebration led by kids and powered by purpose, designed to inspire the next generation of changemakers. Kicking off at noon, experience a moving, interactive program led by the Museum’s Kids’ Committee, featuring live music, spoken word, and unforgettable performances.
• Peace March through Kids’ Hall: A meaningful, family-friendly moment where young voices and hopeful hearts unite to honor a legacy rooted in courage, compassion, and positive change.
• Reenactment of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech, performed by actor Steve Scott.
• Live musical performances by Dr. Kiana Williams, featuring powerful selections including “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” “A Change Is Gonna Come,” and “Happy Birthday.”
• Live speed painting by artist Ange Hillz, showcasing creativity in action and the power of visual storytelling.
Throughout the day, explore hands-on activities that reinforce Dr. King’s message in meaningful ways:
• Dove Garland: Celebrate peace by creating a dove garland inspired by Dr. King’s vision of unity.
• Dream Art: What’s your dream for your family, your friends, or your future? Turn big ideas into colorful cloud art to take home and cherish.
• Special Story Time & Craft sponsored by Phillips 66: Enjoy a story centered on kindness and inclusion, followed by a collaborative craft where you create your own Unity Peace Doves. (At 2 and 3 p.m. in Parent Resource Library).

• Peace Flower Workshop: Create your own Peace Flower while reflecting on Dr. King’s powerful message of freedom and equality.
• MLK Day Storytimes and Craft: Enjoy a story centered on kindness and inclusion, followed by a hands-on activity where you work together to create your own Unity Peace Doves. (At 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Kidtropolis Town Center).
• Dove Garland: Celebrate Dr. King’s message of peace by creating a dove garland to symbolize unity and hope.
• Dream Art: What are your dreams for your family, friends, or future? Turn big ideas into colorful cloud art to take home and display with pride.
