Houston Reads Day

Literacy Now, a local non-profit organization dedicated to transforming communities by empowering children and families through literacy, leadership, and life skills, will host the first-ever Houston Reads Day on March 2, 2021 presented by Castex Foundation. Houston Reads Day is a dedicated day for Houstonians to come together to read to students, support Literacy Now’s expansion, and bring awareness to the literacy crisis in our city.

On March 2, Literacy Now will bring together 400 volunteers to read to 10,000 K-3rd grade students in 25 HISD schools for Houston Reads Day. Due to COVID-19 safety recommendations, the inaugural Houston Reads Day will take place virtually, with volunteers reading remotely. The local event coincides with National Read Across America Day and kicks off Read Aloud Month.

Deadline to register is February 1, 2021. For more information on Literacy Now’s year-round programs and ongoing efforts, visit www.literacynowhouston.org
