Loving Houston to Host 101 Workshop and Leader Luncheon

Loving Houston will host the first Loving Houston 101 Workshop of 2019, followed by a Leader Luncheon. Houstonians interested in how their church can begin or expand a partnership with a local school are encouraged to attend.

At the workshop, Anne Wilson from St. Philip Presbyterian Church and Eileen McGowan from Liberty High School will share details of their church-school partnership. Dr. James Furr, president of the Houston Graduate School of Theology, will be presenting on Missional Theology. Lawrence Allen from Houston ISD and the Texas State Board of Education will be presenting on the Legal Guidelines of Church and State Separation.

In addition, Loving Houston executive director Marilyn Lee will share the key components of a church-school partnership: Case for Action, Core Values, and a step-by-step guide for starting a Long-Term Flourishing Church-School Partnership.

Following the 101 Workshop, current partnership leaders will gather for the Leader Luncheon to share ideas, and learn about available resources. Pastor Parris and Chantell Patrick of Agape Community Bible Church are the featured speakers and will share “Emotional Poverty and Understanding Poverty” based on Dr. Ruby Payne’s technique.

Loving Houston is a nonprofit organization that advances community transformation by helping churches serve local schools.
