Percussion Ensemble I

Percussion Ensemble I

Under the direction of Dr. Blake Wilkins, the Moores School Percussion Ensemble I presents an exciting program featuring some of the newest and most provocative works for percussion ensemble, including Michael Laurello’s “Spine,” Isaac Schankler’s “Blindnesses,” “Kyoto” by New Zealander John Psathas, “Twilight” by Swedish composer Tobias Broström, John Wyre’s “Marubatoo” and Thierry de Mey’s visually fascinating “Musique de Table.” The concert will also feature Wilkins’ own epic work for large percussion ensemble, celebrating the 30th anniversary of its premiere.

The Moores School Percussion Ensemble has achieved international recognition as a result of being named winners of the Percussive Arts Society International Percussion Ensemble three times — in 2003, 2006 and 2010. They have also recognized for three critically acclaimed compact discs released on the Albany Records label and the highly successful New Music Project, which has commissioned and premiered 16 new works for the medium.
