Indus Arts Council proudly presents Rūng ā Rūng - Tea and Truck Art, an immersive experience into the culture of Pakistan through its delicious, regional teas and colorful truck art.

Rūng Ā Rūng means “colorful.” Indus Arts Council is creating a colorful cultural experience for Houston families to indulge in the nuances of Pakistani tea and truck art culture, created through interactive performances, art show, food bazaar, and children’s activities.

Many Asian and Eastern countries use tea in their daily lives almost ritualistically, as an element to cleanse or commune. Tea in Pakistan takes on a unique stance where it is essential to hospitality and weaving bonds of friendship and long-term relationships between strangers and families. Come with your families for tea, samosas, and colorful truck art that has transformed transport branding into pop art in Pakistan.

Features of the Event
• Food Street with the finest pairings of sweets and savory, and an array of chai
• Village setting with charpais (woven beds) and chai
• Interactive performances—dance and regional fashion show
• Original Truck Art for sale by local Houston artists
• Cultural Arts and crafts for sale
• Children’s activities
• Rickshaw Ride
• Food Trucks

The event is family friendly and minimally ticketed for families to enjoy together.

In addition to the two day festival, guests are invited to indulge in Urdu Poetry (Mushaira) over dinner on Saturday, Sept. 28, 7:30-9:30 pm. The poetry is themed around truck art and the famous verses written on the trucks in Pakistan. These verses provide ample entertainment as humor, satire, and “words from the wise.” This is an adults only exclusive look at the art and entertainment on the opening night.

This event by IAC is funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.
