Seventh Annual Tweens Read Festival

The seventh annual Tweens Read Book Festival, in conjunction with Blue Willow Bookshop, will take place on Oct. 21, 2017 at South Houston High School. Aimed at children in grades five through eight, Tweens Read offers young readers a chance to discover new books, broaden horizons, and connect with established authors and illustrators.

Astronaut and author Leland Melvin, whose book Chasing Space was published earlier this year, headlines the festival with a morning keynote address. In addition to working as a NASA astronaut and engineer, Melvin is the host of a Lifetime TV show, a former wide receiver for the Detroit Lions, and former co-chair of the White House's STEM Education Task Force.

Other local and national authors in attendance include: David Barclay-Moore, Stephen Bramucci, Jessica Brody, Jake Burt, Rob Buyea, Andrew Clements, Lindsay Eager, Alan Gratz, Lisa Greenwald, Paul Griffin, James Hannibal, Caleb Huett, Victoria Jameison, Erin Entrada Kelly, Kate Milford, Celia Perez, James Ponti, Corabel Shofner, Christina Soontornvat, Tamara Ireland Stone, Wade Albert White, Judd Winick, Allan Woodrow and Kat Yeh.
