Joni HoffmanIn last month’s editor’s note, I ended with how much I love Houston. I wrote that shortly before the entire city was frozen over and without power and water. I wanted to “stop the presses” and take it back. But then, the sun came out, and so did the helpers. Houston, it has been painful. But once again, neighbors stepped up to help each other. In this issue, Andria Frankfort highlights kind volunteers who jumped into action. Also this month, Meg Scott spotlights one of Houston’s claims to fame: exceptional birdwatching. And Jennifer Oakley introduces bright, young chess players in our midst. Cindy Gabriel, as always, digs deep, tackling the power of awe, nature, scientists, poets, and perfect 2-year-old grandsons. And our annual Summer Camp Directory is full of exciting options for kids (and their parents) after a long year. Houston, I still love you. [email protected]
