Texas time
Nearly 200 West University Elementary fourth graders enjoyed a learning experience in the state capital of Austin. The day started early when five buses loaded at 5:30 a.m. Students had a full day of Texas history and government, with visits to the Capitol and Visitors Center and the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum, where they watched the popular interactive movie about Texas. They stopped at the Texas State Cemetery, suggested to them by Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, and learned colorful stories of the lives and deaths of politicians and military figures. They enjoyed cookies that Sen. Joan Huffman sent, as well as Rep. Sarah Davis’ presentation on how to turn a bill into a law.
