Groundbreaking renovations
For the first time since its opening in 1968, the Alley Theatre is changing the look of its facilities. Recently, the theater celebrated the groundbreaking for the extensive renovation as part of its $73 million capital campaign, co-chaired by Meredith Long and Roger Plank. At the ceremony, Roger Plank shattered a column on the Hubbard Stage, marking the beginning of the $46.5 million renovation. Pictured, from left, are artistic director Gregory Boyd, Roger Plank, Margaret Alkek Williams, Jesse Marion and managing director Dean R. Gladden with their sledgehammers. Although the theater is undergoing changes, it doesn’t mean the show won’t go on; the 2014-15 season will be performed at the University of Houston, on its main campus. The grand opening of the renovated Alley Theatre is scheduled for fall 2015. Visit www.alleytheatre.org/2014-2015.
