Smart trip

If you ever wondered why there are so many Texans in Colorado, Marlene and Lloyd Matzner found out why on their trip to Vail and Boulder. They learned that a summer “intellectual” retreat was started in order to train Texas teachers in Boulder, at the Colorado Chautauqua, in the cool weather. The Matzners too enjoyed the great weather at the Rufus Wainwright concert at the Chautauqua 100-year-old concert hall and immersed themselves in the sounds of the New York Philharmonic at the Gerald T. Ford Amphitheater. Bravo, Vail summer concert! By the way, Chautauqua means two moccasins tied together.

Although Sharon Brier grew up in the Rio Grande Valley she left as soon as she could and found herself immersed in all that Houston has to offer.
