Backpack buddies

More than 200 people participated in the Backpack Blast sporting-clays tournament, live auction and dinner benefiting Houston Food Bank’s Backpack Buddy Program at the Greater Houston Gun Club. The Backpack Buddy Program works to help children who rely on free or reduced-price lunches during the school week and have meager or no meals at home on the weekends. On Fridays, children take home child-friendly, nutritious meals given discreetly in backpacks. Pictured are (from left) chairs Tom Burke, CEO of The Rowan Companies, and George Ball, CEO of Sanders Morris Harris. Rob Schanen, EVP of Alliant Insurance Services, was also chair. The event raised close to $300,000.
