The Southwest Football League’s sophomore-division Mustangs and Bears battle it out under the lights in a recent game. The third- and fourth-grade boys wore pink socks and other pink uniform accessories in honor of breast cancer-awareness month. Mustangs players Walker Dellinger, a third grader at West University Elementary, and Blake Masterson, a fourth grader at St. John’s School, assisted by Jack Easterby, a River Oaks Baptist School third grader, and Harrison Tramonte, a third grader at West University Elementary, fought Bears players Chico Holt, a West University Elementary fourth grader, and Ethan Spears for control of the ball. Spears, a fourth grader at Memorial Drive Elementary, plays with the Southwest Football League instead of a league closer to home. “Although we live in Piney Point, Ethan and our family have made lifelong friends in West University through the SFL. It’s the best-run league in the city,” said Ethan’s dad, Chris.
