A good doctor
Bellaire resident Dr. Andrew Futreal (pictured, at right, with MD Anderson provost Dr. Ethan Dmitrovsky) is doing great work in the community. Recently, he received the inaugural Jack and Beverly Randall Prize at MD Anderson. The $100,000 cash award is given to a distinguished faculty member each year to recognize innovation in cancer research and excellence in patient care. Dr. Futreal is a professor of genomic medicine and is internationally recognized as a pioneer in large-scale systemic cancer genomics. His work has led to the identification of breast/ovarian cancer susceptibility genes, mutations in melanoma, mutations in lung cancer, and new cancer genes in renal cell carcinoma.
