The Mustangs basketball team (pictured) won the United Church Athletic League’s fifth-grade boys’ championship. Affiliated with West University Methodist Church, the Mustangs competed against teams from Annunciation Orthodox School, River Oaks Baptist and St. Anne Catholic, and they finished the season with a 10-1 record. They had an exciting season leading up to the championship, including holding St. Anne to only 2 points during the entire game, and beating River Oaks Baptist to advance to the finals. Most of the players on the team have been together for the last three years and are classmates at West University Elementary School. The champion Mustangs are (top row, from left) coach Tristan Anderson, Robert McGee, Samuel Sheffield, Austin Courtney, Dylan Ballard and assistant coach Tracy Anderson; (front row, from left) Daniel Thompson, Kyle Kekish, Justin Ganim, Drew Michael and Reece Tiras.
