Emery sets up for a play during their 70-24 win over the Oakwood Panthers.
As hope is in the air for the completion of the brand new Helfman Field at Caress Stadium, so is hope for a more successful year of Emery/Weiner football. There is hope for the Jaguars, who are now hungrier and more determined to take care of business that they fell short of last year.
This year the Jaguars will try to compete for the TAPPS D-I District 3 Title and playoff success in their new district. This young team is led by the senior leadership of Cole Caress and Harrison Rosenthal; a hard hitting, aggressive defense led by junior edge rusher Lewis Graubart, and an offense led by star running back Jordan Loev. For their first game under the lights on Aug. 29, the Emery Jaguars started their comeback season with an 82-6 victory over Mt. Carmel. Their imposing defense was headlined by Lewis Graubart and Cole Caress, along with junior corner Brandon Gomel who had a few pass breakups and an interception.
“It was a good win and a good way to start the year,” sophomore running back Jordan Loev said. “I just hope we can continue this dominance in the future and keep our competitive edge over other teams.”
The Jaguars recorded their second victory when they beat the Oakwood Panthers 70-24 on Saturday, Sept. 5. The offense was up for the test as Jordan Loev ran for three touchdowns and Garrett Glover caught the game winning touchdown pass in the 3rd quarter.
“We really stepped up, I like the way our guys played and fought the whole time and never got down after a bad play,” Coach Adrian Adams said. The Jags once again capitalized on their chances versus Oakwood as they came up big on fourth downs and key drives, like the one that led to their game clinching touchdown. Emery has shown two very strong outings to start the season bringing in a lot of optimism for this season.
For Emery, it is a tall order to stay undefeated throughout the season, but Coach Adrian Adams and the rest of the Jaguars have been working hard to avenge their heartbreaking end to the 2014 season, and have all the drive and determination for success.
