Sail Amsterdam, an event that occurs every five years, is touted as the largest free and public festival in the world. It was the reason Dr. Joel and Melanie Goffman and Sue and Louis Atlas chose to be in Amsterdam with 2 million other visitors. A flotilla of tall ships – iconic, old and new – crowds the Amsterdam U haven for seven days and creates a Mardi Gras on water. While in Kinderdijk, the couples toured a windmill built in 1738 where a family of 13 once lived inside.
