Cornerstone Academy sixth grader Julia Chapman (pictured) heads toward the ball in a recent soccer game. Julia, 11, has played soccer for seven years and is currently on the Killer Kiwis team in the senior girls division of the Spring Branch-Memorial Sports Association (SBMSA). Coached by Andrew Lucio and David Muhon, the Killer Kiwis are sixth through eighth graders from several schools, including Memorial Middle School, Spring Branch Middle School and Spring Forest Middle School. The team is having a great season and is near the top of the standings. Cornerstone Academy does not have a competitive sports program, so Julia had to look elsewhere to play soccer this year. She is grateful to have SBMSA in the neighborhood so she can continue to play soccer through middle school.

Editor’s note: Send your best high-resolution photos and behind-the-scenes stories about young local athletes, in both team and individual sports, to SportzBuzz, Jr. at [email protected].
