The Bayou Preservation Association had its 50th-anniversary kickoff party at Public Services Wine & Whisky. The party commemorated the day that the packet steamer, Laura, made it all the way up Buffalo Bayou to Allen’s Landing, proving that Houston was a navigable port. All Lauras got in free at the mixer at the historic Houston Cotton Exchange Building. Making waves were Kathy Lord, Steve Hupp, Vince Ryan, James Glassman, Rob and Marianne Jones, Carroll Shaddock, Terri Thomas, Brian Broussard, Marjorie Cohan, Lesley Rice, Laura Scyrkels and Sarah Gruber.
