A group of Awty International School students, including (pictured, from left) Nicolas Feder, Paulina Lelo de Larrea, Tamara Bissat, Isabela Simon and Matthew Feder, spent a Friday evening organizing all the donations for a garage sale. Under the school club Lights and Action, president Paulina Lelo de Larrea set out to raise over $5,000 to contribute to Mariana’s Place at Texas Children’s Hospital. Mariana’s Place, donated by the Goudet family, is a multisensory room used to give therapy to kids with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and autism, and children going through rehabilitation. Mariana spent more than 12 months at Texas Children’s Hospital, and Karla Goudet, her mother, saw the need for a place where kids who had to stay for long periods of time could spend a few hours in an environment that promotes healing and relaxation. The students raised over $1,000 in their first garage sale. Lights and Action includes kids from Awty, Strake Jesuit, Saint Agnes and Episcopal High School.
