Cookoff success
The sixth annual Houston Kosher Chili Cook-Off was held at Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center. Participants, including Glenn Lowenstein (pictured, wearing camouflage hat), Steve Rubin (wearing gray and blue hat) and Rabbi Ranon Teller (in gray shirt), enjoyed live music, a moonwalk, climbing walls, balloon artists, a jalapeño-eating contest, a silent auction and, of course, sampling chili. The coveted best chili and first-place award was presented to the Chabad of Uptown team. Proceeds benefited Houston Jewish day schools and the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center’s Meals on Wheels. There was also a blood drive and marrow drive. Houston Council Member Ellen Cohen presented a proclamation naming the day “Kosher Chili Cookoff Day.” Also seen were David Nadel, Wayne Lidsky, Ira Levine and Linda Levine.
