The non-profit organization Pink Door awarded nearly $40,000 to women battling cancer in the Houston area. A fund called Gayl’s Legacy Fund provides financial support for everyday expenses to women with cancer in need. Funds awarded for the first quarter of 2016 went to 17 women in Harris, Brazoria and Waller counties with breast, bone, cervical, colon, leukemia or uterine cancer. To raise more funds, members are hosting an inaugural Sporting Clays Charity Tournament on May 21 at American Shooting Centers (16500 Westheimer Pkwy.). Event chairs are Matt Davis and Ryan van Steenis. Single-shooter tickets start at $250. See pinkdoornonprofit.org/sportingclays or call 832-727-3121.
