Andrea Conley, a seventh-grade student at Pin Oak Middle School, earned national recognition in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2016. She is being awarded a Gold Medal for her piece Fish Out of Water. She has been identified by panels of creative professionals as one of the most talented young artists in the nation. This year, nearly 320,000 works of art and writing were submitted. Only the top 1 percent were recognized at the national level, and she is one of 2,400 students to receive a National Gold Medal. These students have been invited to attend a ceremony at the world-famous Carnegie Hall in New York on June 2.
