Memorial Drive Elementary School’s Art Car Monster

Memorial Drive Elementary School students worked for months to turn a car into a colorful art monster, which was featured in the Art Car Parade last weekend (art car #130). Students weaved old t-shirts onto plastic fencing, which was then attached to a car.
Every student, from preschool through fifth grade, worked on the project and the Art Car Club, which included fourth and fifth graders, took the lead with art teacher Debbie Guelzow. The Art Car Club met every Thursday after school and played a larger role in the creative details of the car, including creating Papier-mâché eyeballs and bicycle wheel earrings (which turned out to be the eye sockets).
The students and their families enjoyed seeing their “monster” come to life during the parade.
