Last week, Duchesne Academy hosted its annual Upper School Choir Concert accompanied by the St. Thomas High School a cappella group, “The Eagle Elites.” The show featured some of the most prominent songs of today’s pop culture, such as Fight Song, Unwritten and Stay, along with some classics such as the Beach Boys’ I Get Around, and the wildly popular musical Wicked with For Better.
Choir director Kathy Manley kicked off the night with a touching tribute to the diligence and dedication of each of the ensemble members and soloists. The show opened with the Duchesne Choir singing The Andrew Sisters’ Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, followed by soloist Tatyana Passmore, a freshman, demonstrating her vastly impressive range in her rendition of Rihanna’s Stay.

Up next was St. Thomas Eagle Elite member, Travis Carroll, a senior, with Hillsong’s Irresistible. The Duchesne St. Thomas ensemble came together once again for a powerful performance of Rachel Platten’s deeply sentimental piece, Fight Song, featuring the solo work of Duchesne freshman Zoe Barinaga and seniors Marianne Kendall and Gabby Stunz.
The night came to a close with a deeply sentimental performance of For Better, honoring the Duchesne and St. Thomas senior Choir members and wishing them well as they embark on this next chapter of their lives. All in all, the 2016 Pop Show gave its audience a night of spectacular talent, touching sentiment and a deep sense of camaraderie.
