Artist Roger Seward works on a sizzling Houston summer day to paint a nature-themed display on the utility box at the corner of South Rice and Bissonnet.

You’ve probably noticed all of the colorful and artistic utility boxes around town. Bellaire is also adopting this creative way of disguising boring metal boxes behind beautifully painted works of art.

Amateur artist Roger Seward is one of the many artists who submitted designs in hopes of being able to bring their design to life.

The finished product.

The finished product.

For Seward, the process began by submitting a nature-themed design to Up Art Studio as part of a Houston and Bellaire city art project called Mini Murals. The City of Bellaire chose his design to be painted on the utility box at the intersection of South Rice and Bissonnet. Roger described how he will usually create paintings on a canvas to be hung in someone's house, but this is “rewarding because it can be enjoyed by everyone.”
