Kusama Universe

Carnegie Vanguard High School student Jamie Hassell and West University resident Liam Baker created this video about Yayoi Kusama’s exhibit "Kusama: At the End of the Universe" at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.

This summer, contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama’s signature infinity rooms have been attracting audiences of all ages to The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

The exhibit, called Kusama: At the End of the Universe, continues through Sept. 18. It features a hall transformed into two vibrant, interactive spaces. In Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity, golden lights ignite and then fade into darkness around visitors. In Love Is Calling, glowing, polka-dotted forms shoot up from the floor and hang down from the ceiling while a recording of Kusama's voice recites a love poem in Japanese.

TIME magazine named Kusama, “the Japanese queen of polka dots” born in 1929, to its annual list of "The 100 Most Influential People" for 2016. Exhibition tickets, free in advance for members and children and $18 for adults, are available online or on-site, and also provide access to the Museum’s art collections and High Society: The Portraits of Franz X. Winterhalter.
