The Krewe of Olympians, in existence since the 1890s, began their night of revelry at the New Orleans Country Club with a tableau-about-New Orleans dance. The Mardi Gras Indians, led by Joe Braden, wore full headdresses and carried spears and hatchets while the burlesque dancers wore multicolored wigs, pink bustiers, miniskirts and fishnet stockings. With abundant chest hair showing, the audience roared. The 610 Fakers won with a synchronized disco routine in gold lame pants and shiny polyester shirts. Susan Braden was behind the scenes.
