Today at 4 p.m., The Emery/Weiner School and Second Baptist School will face off in the state semi-final game at Concordia University in Austin. The championship game will be held in the same location tomorrow.

Last year, The Second Baptist Eagles captured the fourth state baseball championship in school history. The Eagles’ star-studded coaching staff at the time included head coach Lance Berkman and pitching coach Andy Pettitte. Lance Berkman is currently head coach of the team at Second Baptist and Adrian Adams is head coach at Emery.

The Emery Jaguars have now made school history by making it to this level. In fact, it’s the very definition of a “good problem to have” as mentioned on today’s KHOU video highlighting the Emery baseball team. Seniors on the team have had to miss part of the much-anticipated annual senior trip to Poland and Israel because of the semi-finals; the scheduling conflict has never been an issue in the past, as this is the first year the team is heading to state.

In any case, Emery seniors - Jordan Hudson, Evan Sack, Jacob Grzebinski, Michael Ran, Michael Talisman, Garrett Glover, Jacob Arnold and Jake Feldman – will fly out as soon as possible after the game to join the rest of their class in Israel.

Emery's Jacob Grzebinski and Evan Sack have signed to play college baseball in the fall (Jacob at Georgetown University and Evan at McLennan Community College) and Michael Ran has signed to play college football at Pomona.

Second Baptist senior Zach Heaton will play baseball at Dallas Baptist University next year and Jaret Prothro at John Hopkins University next year.

Wishing both teams the best of luck today! If you’d like to watch the game from home, see NFHS Network
