Dr. Lora Kahn and Garland White met online, with a mutual love of cats. She was in her neurosurgery residency at Tulane 2.5 years ago when the native Louisiana fellow asked her out. He proposed in 2015 with an antique Edwardian platinum ring attached to her mutt cat Huck’s collar – the key almost fell down the floor vent of her 1890s house. The April 1 wedding was in the original Royal Street building of the First State Bank of Louisiana, which was redesigned after Katrina for events and “fit” since the groom is a financial planner/advisor. The spunky groom had his best man interrupt the bridal brunch by presenting a note to Lora that read, “Honey, I’m sorry, I made a mistake, I need to call it off!” With the note came a “something blue” custom blue topaz ring along with “April Fool’s!” Joining the Second Line of jazz musicians, 150 guests, a police escort, and the bride and groom carrying white and black umbrellas were the parents of the couple, Barry and Tammie Kahn and John and Brenda White. The parade headed back to the Hotel Monteleone after the wedding. Everyone was grinning.
