Publisher's Note - July 2017
This issue reveals the winners of our 12th annual Buzz Photo Contest. As The Buzz has grown over the past 12 years, so has our contest. What began with residents dropping off a few hundred photos on CDs has evolved into a contest with nearly 2,000 online submissions, judged by a panel of professional photographers. One of this year’s judges said the quality of entries in our amateur-photographer contest compares to that of many professional contests. While I do not have a “vote,” I always enjoy sitting in on the judging. It gives me a greater appreciation of everything that makes a memorable photo. This year, I was especially fascinated by the wide range of ages among our winners, from 9-year-old Joseph Johnson to 77-year-old Benard Nelkin. I also love to hear the stories behind the images, and the techniques photographers used to capture the photos. I hope you enjoy the winning images. And remember to enter your own photos in next year’s 13th annual contest. [email protected]
