Bellaire High School graduate Katelyn Bowyer watched as her boyfriend of three years, Ryan Kanaley, got down on one knee in the Venice Canal Historic District of Los Angeles. Ryan, 29, asked Katelyn, 27, to make a trade with him. He said, “If you hang out with me for the rest of our lives, I promise to make you the happiest girl in the world.” She responded, “Deal.” The couple both graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and met three years ago in Los Angeles. After the proposal, Ryan surprised Katelyn with an engagement party at Santa Monica’s stylish eatery, The Estate. They celebrated over spicy margaritas with friends and family, including her sister Delyla Ovalle and parents Fred Bowyer, former Condit Elementary School principal, and Olga, who all flew in from Houston to surprise her, as well as Ryan’s sister and brother-in-law, Erin and Ryan Famularo, who live in Los Angeles. Ryan’s parents are Donna and Mike Kanaley. Ryan is a vice president at Platinum Equity, and Katelyn is an account executive at Time Inc. They are planning an October 2018 wedding.
