New way to meet a neighbor
When Dennis and Jerre Williams looked out their window and saw a stream of kayaks rowing down their street, they knew something was up besides the water. Volunteers were scouting out the neighborhood to see if anyone needed help. Soon after boats arrived to pick up the stranded people, Jerre and Dennis “reserved” a boat and were given 15 minutes to pack the minimum items, medicine, credit cards, I.D.s and clothes for 2-3 days in a tote bag. When they were dropped off on Shady River, there were police officers to take their information in order to get back into the neighborhood, EMS if they needed help, firefighters and 30 volunteers handing out water, food and love.
