River Oaks Baptist sixth graders Lizzy Black, Ava Sklar and Lauren Shu were looking for ways they could make a difference after they saw their city devastated by Hurricane Harvey. Lizzy's grandparents were particularly hit hard. Lizzy helped by cleaning flooded houses and volunteering at a supply drive, but she wanted to do more.
So she called her friends Ava and Lauren, who are “seasoned pros” at bake sale fundraising – they previously helped coordinate a successful bake sale as part of a school project. This bake sale benefiting those affected by Harvey was a sweet success, too.
