50 years later

Members of the Briargrove Elementary School 1968-69 football team (known as the Briargrove Bears at the time) are meeting up this month for their third annual reunion, marking 50 years since they played football together. The event, hosted by teammates Greg DeGeorge and Mark Peterson, will be held at Carrabba’s on Voss and will serve as a fundraiser benefiting Briargrove Elementary. Pictured (from left) are Briargrove student Levi Leon, current principal Thayer Hucheson, student Andlei Yurashevich, Peterson, DeGeorge, student Sam Lieberman and student Luke Campos. Funds raised will help with an outdoor track, iPads and resurfacing of the gymnasium floor. No opponent scored a point against the undefeated team in 1968 or in 1969 except just one touchdown from Emerson Elementary. Teammates planning to attend include Scott Hays, Walter Lee Hood, Michael Bates, Gary Reese, Bill Campbell, Bill Prewett, Craig Kinney, Rick Doak and Doug Read. Classmates and other guests will include Jamie Boss, Rusty Walter, Doug Dashiell, Barry Edick, H. Dean Lane, Tracy Stephens, Mills Worsham, Bruce Carter, Brad Kangeiser, Bobby Blades, Rob Adams and Keith Adams.
